The Space Dance and Arts Centre is an exciting dance and arts centre featuring a variety dance and rehearsal studios, theatre, meeting room, gallery space and lounge. The Space has a range of dance classes for people of various dance abilities and interest levels as well as providing rehearsal and performance space for artists and producers.

The Space Dance and Arts Centre is located on Chapel Street opposite Pran Central. (Entrance in Carlton St). Conveniently close to coffee shops, restaurants, parking, Chapel off Chapel and in the heart of Melbourne's shopping district.

A little bit of history...

Deb and Ariel want The Space to be a sustainable resource for dancers and artists from Melbourne and all around Australia. "So many young dancers have bad experiences with teachers and schools that denigrate them and push them so hard that they lose the joy of dance.", Deb explains. ".We wanted to create a relaxed environment where people can feel comfortable enough to enjoy what they're doing from beginners through to the highest level of professional performers."

Facilities

Dance/Rehearsal Studios

The Space houses 9 dance studios accommodating 20 - 200 people, featuring abundant daylight, polished floorboards, mirrors, IPOD/CD facilities and plenty of space. These studios are ideal for dance classes or theatre rehearsals, auditions and workshops.

Performance Space

The Space houses three versatile performance spaces. The Dancehall houses 120 audience members with flexible seating arrangements, staging, a full lighting rig and sound requirements.  The Theatre houses 100 audience members with a choice of either cabaret or theatre style seating, flexible staging and basic lighting and sound requirements. The Red Room is a warm and intimate venue comfortably housing 50 audience members, featuring polished floorboards, basic sound and lighting and rostra. All spaces are are ideal for performances, workshops and showings. All studios are available for performances and showings.

From the City

• TRAM # 72 (down Commercial Rd), disembark at Chapel St and walk right down Chapel St then left into Carlton St.
• TRAM #6 (down High St), disembark at Chapel St and walk left along Chapel St then right into Carlton St.
• BUS # 220 (to Gardenvale),
• BUS #216 / #219 (to Brighton),  disembark at Chapel St and walk right along Chapel St then left into Carlton St.
• TRAIN (to Sandringham) Disembark at Prahran Station. Walk left out of the station along Station St and turn right into Greville St. At the end of Greville St walk left along Chapel St and right into Carlton St.

From Richmond

• TRAM #78 / #79 (Along Church St / Chapel St), disembark at Commercial Rd. Continue walking along Chapel St then left into Carlton St.
