Instructor Vira Lata was born Angelo Leonardo Lessa Pimentel in Salvador, Bahia, Brasil the birthplace of Capoeira in 1974. He strated to learn Capoeira at the age of 16 under Mestre Ferreirinha with the group Urucungo. Later he commenced with a strand of this group that branched off under Contra-Mestre Pangolim and Contra-Mestre Bene. At this time many excellent Capoeirista's practiced in this group including Professor Catatau, Professor Arapa, Contra-Mestre Cassio. These practitioners taught me to extend my abilities and develop self confidence. The different teachers from Urucungo started to develop their own Capoeira groups and pass on the knowledge they had learned to a new generation of Capoeirista's.
In 2000 Vira Lata was awarded his Instructor Cordao by Contra-Mestre Bene (founder of Associacao Batukege Capoeira) and professor Catatau. He relocated to England to create his first school at queen Mary University in London. The school was highly successful andVira-Lata has now moved to Melbourne, Australia to give the opportunity for Australians to learn this vibrant form with Associacao Batukege Capoiera.
